Fish2Fork Chefs’ Club

•March 8, 2012 • Leave a Comment

Fish2fork was established as a result of the impetus created by Charles Clover’s book and film ‘The End of the Line’. The film brought the crises in our oceans, in particular that of overfishing and its catastrophic consequences, into the public arena. Whilst the public has clearly demonstrated its concern about the issue, and supermarkets have responded accordingly, the restaurant trade had been alarmingly slow to react. As such a clear opportunity was identified to both equip consumers with the knowledge to make responsible decisions about their restaurant choices and, in parallel, work with the restaurant trade to improve their practices. Fish2Fork works to drive major change within the restaurant business, encouraging sourcing and selling of sustainable fish.

The National Grid was asked to produce a visual identity for the launch of the Fish2Fork Chefs’ Club. The Chefs’ Club consists of a group of engaged, influential and prestigious restaurateurs and chefs committed to sustainable and responsible seafood sourcing practices (Including Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. This group will help create a restaurant industry in which quality is synonymous with sustainability and, ultimately, no endangered or vulnerable species are served.

The Drawing Arm :: Illustration Agency

Ever wondered what’s essential for quality illustration? A Drawing Arm – of course!
The National Grid :: Design Distillery has officially launched their brand new illustration agency.

The Drawing arm :: Illustration Agency

Directors, Simon Barrett and Lara Allport have spent the last decade establishing and developing The National Grid as a multidisciplinary design agency and gallery space. The rationale from the Boss Lady Lara Allport is, ‘we have met so many talented illustrators and designed for such a huge range of clients over the years. It seemed like the logical progression to connect these illustrators with new and potential clients and form our very own illustration agency.’

The Drawing Arm represents a collective of hand-picked, top-notch, super-impressive contemporary illustrators from Australia and beyond. The stellar line up includes Ben Brown, Edwina Buckley, Brandon Els, Georgia Hill, Jeremy Lord, Lara Allport, Ryan Hanrahan, Luke Morrell, Donn Pattenden, Marty Schneider, Stuart Smythe, Mia Taninaka, Kareena Zerefos, Bec Winnel, Numskull, Andrew Fairclough and more to be announced soon.

These illustrators aren’t new to commercial work. Previous clients include Apple, Intel, Panasonic, Telstra, Westpac, Samsung, LG, Sakkara Property Development, Colliers International, Red Bull, Tracks magazine, Harpers Bazaar magazine, Yen magazine, Triple J, Sydney Theatre Company, Holden, Yamaha, Hyundai, Fuel TV, Hurley, Volcom, Mambo, Sportsgirl, Kookai, Kim Kardashian and a multitude of fashion labels, musicians, festivals, record companies and more.

The National Grid :: Design Distillery became its own client )
We started by designing the identity, then moved onto a particularly stylish looking website.

The industry launch will be held early April, For a chance to win one of the massive 2.4m illustrations from one of our illustrators, please go love our Facebook page!

Moonshine Bar Manly

With a radical overhaul of the three level pub in Manly, The Steyne opened its newest bar to the punters late last year.
The newest bar ‘Moonshine’ a Cider & Rum bar & music venue with a completely amazing fitout of old reclaimed timber & ropes takes over the top floor of the Steyne. The National Grid was asked to produce a large scale illustration for the ceiling of the bar. The rather large 38sqm illustration drew reference from the spirit & mystery of the sea.
Cant recommend a cheeky rum enough in the bar if your in Manly anytime soon )

Facing new challenges in the Modern World, Page Thirty Three has started to evolve their process and design toward a new way of thinking. One that involves as many Australian made products as possible, as well as using, not just sustainable and recycled materials, but also re-using existing materials in order to break the energy flow.

The National Grid worked with Page ThirtyThree to create their new website with an online shop.
